Do not wash with water, just wipe it
Bought this grinder to grind coffee beans only but I made a mistake by washing only the metal part with water. Of course I did this with power unpluged and I did not put it in the dishwasher nor submerge it in the water.
Well after using for awhile (6 months), the motor freezed so I took it apart and found it got rusted where the motor connects to the blade. I did not read the intruction so I don't know if the instructions mention anything about cleaning this.

Old faithful
We have used a Braun grinder like this almost every day for over 15 years, and it works as well as the day we got it. It has not changed much over the years and the new one appears to be identical. You have to gauge the grind texture by the sound of the machine, which takes some practice,(after a couple of grinds, you can't see through the top) but overall, it's great. I'm buying another one for a friend today. The best part is, it's less expensive now than when we bought ours 15 years ago.

Grinds? Check. Makes lots of noise? Check.
It's simple. It's small. It can grind enough coffee for a large home pot.

I don't use it very often, but that's because I don't really make coffee that often. It gets the job done, and does it fairly quickly and painlessly.

It's a bit noisy, but I think that's to be expected. After all, you're grinding coffee beans.

I've strictly used this for coffee, not spices. I imagine it would do a fine job on spices as well, but given the smaller size of most spices, you should read a different review where someone has used it for that. However, if you do plan on grinding spices, buy 2. One for spices, one for coffee.

The grinder is a little difficult to clean. It's not submersible, and the blade isn't removable. The top/lid is easy enough to clean (as it is submersible), but for the unit, I shake/tap it out onto a paper towel, and then use a new, damp paper towel to clean it out, and then dry it.

The "not easy, though not quite difficult," clean-up is what makes this 4 out of 5 stars, instead of 5/5.

Broke in first use
I was excited to grind some expensive coffee I received as a present so I tried to use this product right away. It worked well at first but then the blade started to freeze up. After removing the semi ground coffee and moving the blade around (unplugging the unit first of course) to free it I tried to finish grinding my coffee. I stopped very soon when smoke began pouring out of the unit. Maybe I got a dud, but beware of this product. Seems you get what you pay for.
