Still not sure whether pros outweigh cons...
Have had this coffeemaker for about 5 years... and to be frank, I bought it for its superficial beauty. After all these years, it still manages to look oh-so-pretty on the counter just inches away from a matching ss dishwasher. But at times I wonder if it's not silently laughing at me knowing that I'm willing to put up with some design flaws/inconveniences for its good looks.

Pros:
*looks good (and especially looked great 5 years ago when ss was an absolute kitchen must)
*coffee tastes good... I like the feature that allows you to brew less than 4 cups but you can push a button to make the water heat up nice and hot!

Cons:
*small area to pour the water into... which leads to the next con:
*difficult to see how much water you've poured in! (no clear gauge outside) For those rolling your eyes right now, yes, you can put the water into the carafe and fill it that way knowning how much water you're putting in. But, the amounts are not the same. 4 cups in carafe does not fill it up to 4 on the inside marker. This isn't a HUGE deal but it gets annoying at times when you rely on your coffeemaker every morning!
*top lid is designed in a way that when you lift it to clean it out-- water (condensation) drips down the back part of the maker. There's no smart lip feature that helps catch the extra water.
*cleaning the carafe, water always leaks from the top black band portion when you turn the carafe right-side up after rinsing it out... meaning, when you clean it, you should turn it right side up before wiping it off, otherwise more water just runs down.
*ah, alas, beauty apparently doesn't last forever ... as my ss Cuisinart is clearly showing her age with scratches and dings.

But overall, it looks good...and brews coffee. If a friend asked me "would you buy it again" -- I would emphatically say "No... probably." Darn her good looks...

It worked well for as long as one could expect.
We used it virtually everyday for about 4 years and our compliants are minor. Recently, the switch started acting up so we are getting a new machine. We're switching brands, but probably just for a different set of plusses & minuses.

Plusses for the DCC-1200:
- makes a good cup of coffee (we haven't yet been convinced it needs to be any hotter)
- it's not too big (it's amazing how huge some models are)
- it beeps when it's done brewing
- it looks good
- it's worth the price ($65)

Minuses:
- seeing the water level when filling isn't easy, compared to units with the fill level visible on the outside
- the fill opening requires careful aim (a trade-off for its compact size, but it wasn't that hard to deal with)

Our next unit will have a thermal carafe and no heating element. We prefer that the coffee be kept hot after brewing and not cooked further. We turned off this unit immediately after brewing was finished.

This unit will satisfy the average person's needs quite well. For those who consider themselves coffee connaisseurs, it's likely to be not good enough.

Way Overpriced
My husband and I have had this coffee maker for about a year now and while pretty to look at, it works no better than the $24 basic Black & Decker coffee maker. We drink coffee every day. Your coffee maker has a lot less to do with how good your coffee tastes than the quality of the coffee bean you are buying. After having so many coffee makers in my life and trying so many different types of coffee, I cannot be convinced that a $70-$100 coffee maker is going to brew a superior cup of coffee. Don't assume that because this unit is expensive that it is any better than the low end Black & Decker ones. The only positive difference worth noting is the pour spout on the carafe - this one is better, but still not worth the money your paying for the looks of this maker. You're being hoodwinked on this one, folks.

cuisinart coffee maker
Coffee comes out great and is hot. The design of the water line is not great. Not visible from side like most but only looking down from the top. Other than that it is a great maker. I own many Cuisinart products and they all seem to work well with no problems.

Ok coffee, bad design
Bought this as a replacement for a very good Braun machine which, however, turned up its toes and died for no reason, as Brauns apparently do. The Cuisinart makes good enough coffee, but when you use it, you will see that the clumsiness and stupidity of its design is breathtaking. It is not as easy to fill with water as other coffee makers, but you can get used to that. But try to brew a full, or close to full pot, and you will discover when you finish that there are coffee grounds all over the inside, and no way to clean it other than to unplug it, hold it under a spray (preferably) faucet, and wash them out. Possible, but clumsy and inefficient.
