Nice Unit - Great for Small Apartment or Desk
I've been using my Mr. Coffee DRX5 coffee maker for eight months now and I really like it. I wanted a small coffee maker for my desk at work and this one has really fit the bill. It has a very small footprint so it works great on my desk, it has not leaked a drop which is also good, and it makes pretty good coffee. (I use a heaping 2 tablespoon scoop for four cups.) I chose the black color so it doesn't show the stains. The unit has a removable filter basket so I don't spill grounds when emptying and the water level sight "glass" (which is plastic) is really handy since I fill it out of a water bottle rather than using the carafe. The clock is a great feature as I don't have one at my desk. (I notice that others have mentioned having problems with the clock but mine works just fine.) The output when I make a full pot fills my coffee cup about twice which I find is about the right amount of coffee for me.
I only have minor complains. You have to pour slowly so the carafe doesn't spill and one hour shut off doesn't give me enough time. (Some mornings I make coffee at 6:30 and haven't' had a chance to touch it until after 8:00.) You can hit start again and it will warm up the carafe.
Overall, this is a great little unit and it has inspired others in my office to purchase thie model as well. Making my own coffee is much cheaper than paying a $1.00 for a 16 oz. cup in the cafeteria and I love the smell when the coffee is brewing. Having this unit allows me to drink the specialized coffee I prefer. The small size means making a second pot isn't so much of a chore on those days when one pot isn't going to cut it. I recommend the Mr. Coffee DRX5 to people who like fresh coffee with a minimum of fuss, either at home or at work.

Does the job
We bought this coffee maker after our old electric one died and two other ones (Farberware and Melitta 4-cup coffee makers) didn't work out. We've only used it a few times, but so far it's doing a good job. Because of previous reviewers' comments about the timer, we decided not to even set/program the clock since turning on the coffee maker in the morning isn't a problem for us. The only complaint we have so far about this Mr. Coffee is that we haven't been able to find a permanent basket-style filter for it, so we're just using regular ones (the Melitta basket-style filters work perfectly, so don't feel like you have to buy Mr. Coffee brand filters). Other than that, though, we are satisfied with this coffee maker and will keep it unless something goes wrong. 2008-08-30

Couldn't ask for more
I usually only have time for one or two cups of coffee before heading off to work in the morning, where I continue to drink it by the gallon. Compact, stylish, and functionality get this little coffee maker a 5/5 rating.
No leaks, no mess. Everything you need in a small and affordable coffee maker.

Two design issues
Okay, well it brews a decent cup of coffee, and it's fast enough. The carafe and hinged lid are about the worst design I've seen. You can't pour out the last half cup of coffee without spilling it. The programmable feature is nice, but there is no locking mechanism on the clock's buttons, so with the slightest bump (or wipe with a cleaning cloth) you will accidentally change the time. Of course the time only adjusts in one direction so when you do accidentally change the time by one hour, you then have to hold the button as it runs through the remaining 23 hours to get back to the right time. Not very well thought out. 2008-08-07

MY MAIN MACHINE!
I CALL THIS MY MAIN MACHINCE BECAUSE IT PERFORMS PERFECTLY TIME AFTER TIME AND GETS ME OFF TO A GREAT START EVERY DAY. MEASURE YOUR COFFEE, POUR THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF YOUR WATER ( COLD ) AND IN MINUTES YOU HAVE GREAT TASTING COFFEE EVERY TIME. SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT NOT REMEMBERING TO MOVE THE SHOWER HEAD OVER THE COFFEE BASKET. IF YOU CAN'T REMEMBER SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS THAT, THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO BUYING GINKO BILOBA AT YOUR FAVORITE VITAMIN STORE. THIS MACHINE IS WORTH EVERY DOLLAR. PEOPLE GIVING IT NEGATIVE RATINGS ARE PEOPLE WHO FIND FAULT IN EVERY ASPECT OF THEIR LIVES, THEY ARE JUST UNHAPPY SOULS WANDERING AIMLESSLY THROUGH THIS BEAUTIFUL WORLD OF OURS LOOKING FOR THINGS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. THER'RE PROBABLY LIBERAL... WHICH IS A MENTAL DESEASE. 2008-07-31
